Job offers

You have decided to change your job and want to find a suitable open position - but where?

Print media
Leading national daily newspapers have weekly extensive job market pages. If you are interested to work in certain location, or a small or medium size employer, you should also look at regional newspapers.

Publications of the target sector usually contain job ads. The chances are high as usually very few people apply to ads in trade journals. These magazines are also suitable to place your own ad.

If you think the ad is unclear to you in many areas, then call them and ask questions. Follow the steps when making contact (e.g. if they are asking for an application via e-mail then please do not send by post and vice versa)

Job markets on the Internet
Nearly all the named media e.g. big daily papers also offer their jobs on the Internet. Special online platforms for job seekers are in Austria amongst others:

A further source for the job search on the internet is the company’s own websites where they often advertise for open positions. Please ensure it is a current ad, as the company websites are not always up to date like the other online platforms.

Unsolicited application
An unsolicited application is sending your application without a request. This approach is common nowadays when job hunting.

Advantages: Your application has no or very little competition and you demonstrate dedication, initiative and motivation. You do not need to specify in your application your qualifications or personality traits to fit in with an ad, but you can present yourself in the most beneficial way.

Even if you are sending an unsolicited application, you must specify the position that you are applying for. Bear in mind to send your application directly the person responsible. You can find this person in the company of your choice, if you call them or search on the internet.

Public services
It is advisable to call on the "Arbeitsmarktservice" especially at the beginning of your job hunt. Apart from many job offers, the AMS also offers information on the attitude of job seekers and stately support measures.

Personal contact – networking
Many companies recruit internally which means that free positions can be offered to capable employees within the company e.g. internships and part-time jobs could open the door to a hidden job market.
Obvious is the use of your personal network.
