Application & salary

In the first interview, salary questions are discussed very vaguely. They check whether your salary expectations correspond with theirs and if your expectations are realistic. The salary negotiations do not take place until the second interview. Fringe benefits, working hours, company car etc. become a discussion point

If the issue of money is going to be discussed, you should inform yourself beforehand. You should know the gross salary for that industry and how many months salary you will receive, to be able to estimate »your market value« realistically. Do not specify a concrete amount, as the employer will not raise the bar. Set a higher amount, but do not go over the top.

If they ask for concrete salary expectations in the application then tell them. Research precisely and give the gross annual salary. It is not advisable to give no amount, as the company can use it as selection criteria for or against you.
If the salary question is all inclusive you can give an all inclusive answer such as »in a personal interview I can clearly present my fair job expectations« or »I am open for different types of compensation«. If you are not asked for your salary expectations, then do not mention it in your application!

Search in your private surroundings and in the media for indications. Several services on the internet or economic magazines regularly publish statistics on average salaries in different industries.
